Houston Model LovelynDreams Talks Fashion & Chasing Dreams
We spotted Houston model LovelynDreams live and on the scene in Houston. We stopped to chat briefly about the things that make her tick and what’s going on in the Houston fashion world. Watch. The conversation is written below.
New Houston Music Outlet: So, Lovelyn, you’ve lived in Houston for a minute. How did you get started in the fashion scene.
Lovelyn: I am Nigerian, but I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Since about like..I’ve always liked modeling. My parents and family would always say, “Oh Tomi, you should do modeling, you should get into fashion” and I would always brush it off growing up just like “oh okay thank you blah blah blah”. Last year around June I would say, my friend was starting his clothing line, Deranged, and he asked me if I could model for him. So, I did that. I really liked how the pictures came out in the photo shoot. So, I decided to dip and dabble into like fashion shows and more modeling stuff. I would say Houston is a fast developing city so its growing in the fashion scene. It’s not quite there yet but it’s growing really quickly.
NHMO: Have you modeled in other cities , how do they compare to Houston’s fashion scene?
Lovelyn: I’ve been to Seattle, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas. Every other city I’ve been to is not as fast paced as Houston. Houston, there’s always a lot going on. Like everywhere you go..I don’t know, it’s different.
NHMO: In your opinion, how can the Houston fashion scene grow?
Lovelyn: I feel like the Houston fashion scene will grow if the right people are here. So for example, like LA and New York, there’s a lot of people who can help models or anybody who’s interested in the fashion world, beauty world, there’s a lot of people living there, Atlanta for example as well. Until those people start living or moving to Houston, that’s when Houston will grow in that aspect.
NHMO: Are you currently involved in any fashion shows or upcoming events?
Lovelyn: Right now I’m not doing any fashion shows. I’m just working on dancing and getting booked for videos and photo shoots. For future purposes, yeah, fashion shows, I really like them.
NHMO: Are you into other arts, like acting?
Lovelyn: Acting, I want to get into but right now I’m focused on dancing and singing, so..
NHMO: Who are you listening to right now, or what singers do you look up to?
Lovelyn: I love Beyoncé, of course, I love Rihanna, SZA, Sabrina Claudio..and..those are like my four main.
NHMO: Are there any models that you aspire to be like or look up to?
Lovelyn: Naomi Campbell (Laughs) Yeah, I love her. And Ducky Thot and Slick Woods. Ducky Thot and Slick Woods they were like Fenty Beauty. They were with that whole campaign.
NHMO: What would be the most interesting place you’ve modeled?
Lovelyn: The most interesting place I modeled would be a restaurant. It was downtown, I forgot the name of the place, but we were doing like a Wild Thoughts inspired photo shoot and the restaurant owner let us use the back part of his restaurant for the background for the picture. That would be like the most interesting place.
NHMO: Any closing remarks?
Lovelyn: I would just like to say if you love doing something you should put 100% into it. Don’t let anybody, your parents, family members, friends, don’t let them discourage you to do what you love to do. Because at the end of the day, once you find what you love to do and you set out a plan, you execute your plan, you’re going to be successful regardless.
